Project Statement
No matter where you live in the world, most people would view clothing as a necessity. To most people clothing is more than something to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Most dress to impress with the help of the retail industry. The spread or globalization of fashion has grown immensely in the last decade. The accessibility of the latest fashion trends has become easier. With the development of the fashion industry global designers such as Dolce and Gabbana, Christian Dior, and Roberto Cavalli have become more and more popular. These global designers come from different social and cultural backgrounds thus making them more appealing to a wider audience. Fashion images on social media/ the internet, television, and magazines intensifies the want to keep up with the latest fashion trends. This itself is an effect of globalization.
I can only imagine that the consumers are pleased with the growing retail industry. If the retail industry had not progressed to where it is today many people here wouldn’t have the clothes on their backs. As for those providing the good for these large companies they are nowhere close to being pleased with the things they go through.
Personally I shop at places like H&M and Forever 21, both of which has stores across the globe. After doing some research, I have learned that both of these stores which are very popular, are part of “Fast Fashion” which leads to disposable fashion. Now that I think about it I have gotten rid of clothes from Forever 21 that were of bad quality/fallen apart.
